Health care providers prescribe medicine to help you reach your health goals. Make sure to take them the right way, at the right time, as your provider recommends.

That seems easy enough in theory — but sometimes life gets in the way. Maybe you’re super busy and forget a dose. Maybe you put off a refill until it’s too late. Or perhaps you skip a dose because the directions are confusing, or the side effects throw you off your game.

Hiccups like these are normal, but they can have both short- and long-term effects on your well-being. To the rescue: Simple digital tools and tips from Aetna®, designed to help you stay on track and get support when you need it.

Nurse on the phone with a patient

Need a nurse?

Call our 24/7 Nurse Line* at
1-855-493-7019 (TTY: 711) to speak with a registered nurse, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If it’s an emergency, dial 911.

*While only your doctor can diagnose, prescribe or give medical advice, the 24-Hour Nurse Line can provide information on a variety of health topics.

Set up home delivery

If you take the same medicine regularly, you may be able to get a 100-day supply delivered to you with your plan’s mail-service pharmacy provider. Standard shipping is included at no extra cost, and prescriptions usually arrive within 10 days.

To enroll, first make sure your medicines are available for mail order by looking them up on the drug list (called a formulary). Then, use one of these three ways to take advantage of this service:

  • Ask your provider to send your prescription directly to our mail-order pharmacy. They will need this NCPDP ID number: 0322038.
  • Register online. First, log in to your secure member website. Then, select “Prescriptions” and choose “New Mail Order Request” from the drop-down. You can download and fill out the mail service order form. Then, mail it back to the address listed on the page.
  • Call Member Services using the number on your Aetna member ID card. An agent can help you sign up.

Find a pharmacy that works for you

If your pharmacy is hard to get to, has limited hours or doesn’t fit into your routine, staying on top of refills can feel like a chore.

Our pharmacy search makes it easy to look up in-network pharmacies that are convenient for you. Just enter your ZIP code, then choose your Aetna plan from the drop-down menu.

A simple change like switching to a pharmacy closer to home could mean the difference between missing doses on the regular and taking your meds regularly.

Try telehealth for answers

Sometimes we just need quick advice and not a full, in-person appointment with a provider. That’s when telehealth is a handy option. These virtual visits allow you to talk with a medical professional from your phone, tablet or computer (via voice or video call), so you don’t have to leave your home.

To take advantage of telehealth, first check with your provider to see if they offer virtual visits. For information about using your telehealth benefit, log in to your secure member website or visit the Aetna Health app.

Use your phone to stay on track

Try these no-cost tricks to help you keep up with your medications.

  • Set reminders. Use your CVS Health app to notify you when it’s time to take your meds each day. To set up, select “Prescriptions” from the bottom of the home page. Then, choose “More” and “Medication reminders.” You’ll receive texts when it’s time to refill or pick up a prescription. Be sure to opt in. Ask your pharmacist if you need guidance.
  • Make note of it. Having side effects or a reaction to your medicine? Use a notes app on your phone to keep track of what you’re experiencing and when it happens. You can jot down and save important info to discuss later with your provider or pharmacist. Here are some things to track to help you notice patterns and ask informed questions:
    • What time you took the medication
    • What you ate and/or drank before and after
    • How you felt before and after
    • Side effects or anything out of the ordinary related to your health
    • What else you took (over-the-counter medicine, vitamins, supplements)
    • Any vital signs or other key data (blood pressure, heart rate, blood sugar)

See Evidence of Coverage for a complete description of plan benefits, exclusions, limitations and conditions of coverage. Typically, mail-order drugs arrive within 10 days. You can call the number on your member ID card if you do not receive your mail-order drugs within this time frame. Members may have the option to sign-up for automated mail-order delivery.
