Did you know there are more than 2,500 programs in the U.S. to help older adults and people with disabilities pay for things like health care, medicine, food, utilities and more? To take advantage of these benefits, all you have to do is find the right ones for you. That’s where BenefitsCheckUp® comes in.

The National Council on Aging created this comprehensive online tool. Their goal: to help you find local health related services and savings programs you qualify for and apply for them. The tool is confidential. Here’s how it works.

Step 1

Visit BenefitsCheckUp.org and enter your ZIP code. Select the benefit categories you’re most interested in, such as “Health Care & Medication” or “Food & Nutrition.” Then click Next.”

Step 2

See a program you like? Click the “See if You May be Eligible” button. You’ll enter some personal information, such as your birthday and monthly income. This will create a personal “Eligibility Results” report.

Step 3

To apply for the benefit, click the “Apply Online” button. Or use the contact information provided by the tool. Have questions? Use the BenefitsCheckUp chat feature to text a support specialist. Or call their hotline at 1-800-794-6559 weekdays 8 AM to 7 PM ET.

BenefitsCheckUp programs that may help you save

Here are just four areas of support that a BenefitsCheckUp specialist can help you find:

1. Long-term care support

There are several lower-cost long-term care-support services that may be available in your area. From nursing homes and assisted-living facilities to rehab centers, BenefitsCheckUp can help you find options in your state.

2. Caregiver relief

BenefitsCheckUp can point you to services that match you with volunteers who can come once a week to take care of your loved ones. This gives you a much needed respite and time to take care of yourself.

3. Utility savings

You can also learn about programs like Lifeline, a federal effort that helps you pay for phone and internet service. A BenefitCheckUp support specialist can help you navigate program eligibility requirements so you can save on utility bills.

4. Transportation assistance

Getting around can be costly. That’s why BenefitsCheckUp helps you find free or low-cost transportation solutions — whether that’s discounts on Amtrak tickets or rides to and from doctor’s appointments.

Call BenefitsCheckUp weekdays at 1-800-794-6559 between 8 AM and 7 PM ET to learn more.

Save a trip to the pharmacy

You can order up to a 100-day supply of certain medicines and have it shipped right to you through our mail-order service. This may be a great option for prescriptions you take regularly. We call these “maintenance” drugs. They’re used to treat long-term conditions, like high blood pressure.
