10 ways the Aetna Health app can help you

Think about how much you already do on your phone — connecting with friends, banking, shopping and so much more. Mobile apps have made everyday tasks easier. And now, with the Aetna Health app, managing your health care is just as convenient. 

The Aetna Health app puts your plan benefits and information all in one place. With just a few taps, you can check coverage details, find providers, track costs, submit claims, access discounts and more.  

Ready to get a closer look at what the Aetna Health app can do for you? First: 

• Go to Google Play or the App Store to download the app on your phone — it’s free. 

• Open the app.  

• Sign in with the same username and password you use for the Aetna secure member website.  

• Don’t have an account? Go to AetnaMedicare.com/Login to create one. Click “Not yet registered?” in the “Create an Account” section.

1. See your ID card

You’ll need your member ID any time you see a provider or pick up a prescription. But you don’t have to carry your physical card with you. Just tap “ID Cards” at the top of the home page to view your policy details, group number and member ID. Need to share your card with your provider? You can send it by email or fax from the app.  

2. Get care when you need it

The Find Care tab on the bottom of the app screen is a one-stop shop for finding a provider, facility, lab, hospital and more. Deciding between a few options? You can use the SmartCompare feature to compare factors like location and business hours. 

Need care now and can’t wait for your next scheduled in-person visit with your primary care provider (PCP)? With the app’s Quick Care button, you can: 

• Find an in-network provider near you 

• Book a visit or vaccine at a nearby CVS MinuteClinic® or walk-in clinic 

• Schedule a virtual visit with your PCP, a mental health professional or other in-network provider 

• Find a local urgent care facility or emergency room

3. Explore your benefits

Wondering what’s included in your plan? Tap “Benefits and Plan Documents” on the app home page to read a summary of your covered benefits and services. You can also view your Explanation of Benefits (EOB). This document outlines care you’ve already received, the amount your plan paid and any remaining balance you might owe.  

4. Find costs

Don't wait until after a procedure or diagnostic test like an X-ray or MRI to find out about possible out-of-pocket costs. Instead, use the “Find Costs” tool in the app to take out the guess work ahead of time.  

Just search for a service or procedure to get cost information. You’ll also see a helpful visual that shows:  

• The total billed amount 

• What Aetna will pay  

• What you’ll pay 

5. Get support for a condition 

If you're living with a chronic or long-term condition, you can get personalized support through the Aetna Care Paths tool in the app. For example, if you have arthritis, you may be eligible for the Joint Health Care Path. There's also a Transform Diabetes Care program, a 12-month support plan for members with diabetes. 

The Care Paths tool brings together your benefits, care recommendations and helpful programs in one place. The goal of these programs: To make it easier to understand your next steps and get the right support on your health journey.  

6. Manage your prescriptions

Keep track of your medications and refill requests with the Prescriptions tab along the bottom of the app screen. You can also put in a request to mail-order your prescription and check the status of the delivery.  

7. Connect with your care team

The Care Team button connects you directly to your assigned health professionals. That might include your PCP, nurse case manager, social worker or condition coaches. Your care team members can provide personalized support and guidance based on your health needs and goals. They can also connect you with helpful resources. 

8. Track your claims

The Claims tab lets you track and analyze your claims directly on your phone. You can use it to: 

• See a real-time list of all past and current medical, dental or vision claims with Aetna 

• Get a status update to see if a specific claim is pending, approved or paid 

• Read your EOB to check your coverage details 

• Settle any outstanding balances  

• Snap a photo of a provider bill with your phone and the app will match it with the right claim 

9. Find forms

Want your caregiver or another trusted person to have access to your account? Or maybe you paid for a covered expense and need to be reimbursed? Scroll down to the “Find a form” section at the bottom of the app screen. You’ll see information on how to file a claim, appoint a representative and more.  

10. Get answers to all your questions

Type your question into the search bar at the top of your screen. Use everyday words, like, “dental benefits” or “pain in right knee.” The app’s smart search functionality will direct you where to go for information.  

Another option: Use the smart chat feature (it looks like a speech bubble) for quick answers or live support.
