Did you know there are more than 2,500 programs in the U.S. to help older adults and people with disabilities pay for things like health care, medicine, food, utilities and more? To take advantage of these benefits, all you have to do is find the right ones for you. That’s where BenefitsCheckUp® comes in.

The National Council on Aging created this comprehensive online tool. Their goal: to help you find the programs you qualify for and apply for them. The tool is free to use and confidential. Follow the three steps below to get started with BenefitsCheckUp. Then keep reading to learn about some of the programs that can help you save.

Step 1

Visit BenefitsCheckUp.org and enter your ZIP code. Select the benefit categories you’re most interested in. Some examples are “Health Care & Medication” or “Food & Nutrition.” Then click “Next.”

Step 2

See a program you like? Click the “See if You May be Eligible” button. You’ll be asked for some personal information, such as your birthday and monthly income. This will create a personal “Eligibility Results” report.

Step 3

To apply for the benefit, click the “Apply Online” button. Or use the contact information provided by the tool. Have questions? Use the BenefitsCheckUp chat feature to text online with a support specialist. Or call their hotline at 1-800-794-6559 weekdays between 8 AM and 7 PM ET.
